HISTORY

CHOJE AKONG TULKU RINPOCHE, Founder of Kagyu Samye Ling, Rokpa Trust , Rokpa International and Tara Trust

Rokpa Trust is a registered charity in the UK with several centres as well as associated projects worldwide. The headquarters of the Trust are at Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland, a large Tibetan Buddhist Centre which was established in 1967 (see www.samyeling.org).

The establishment of Kagyu Samye Ling is founded on three major areas of activity, namely Spiritual Practice, Charitable Aid and Health & Therapy. All projects based at Samye Ling and its associated centres fall within these categories and are run by the Rokpa Trust.

Rokpa Trust was founded by Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche, who was a major figure in the transmission of Buddhism to the West. Rinpoche was also known as a great philanthropist, with humanitarian aid projects in many areas of the world (see www.rokpa.org).

Kagyu Samye Dzong Scarborough is the Yorkshire branch of the UK charity.
