About Us
Kagyu Samye Dzong Yorkshire Tibetan Buddhist Centre has had a presence in Scarborough since April 2009. The centre is an oasis of peace and calm in the heart of the town. It is a wonderful place to relax and unwind in an environment of compassion and respect, to heal one’s body and mind. The centre provides community outreach work with Buddhist meditation and mindfulness classes. We have a programme of courses and workshops focusing on meditation, Buddhism, and holistic therapies and also have excellent Workshop & Conference Facilities.
Buddhism
The Buddhist tradition regards a person as naturally good and pure, and the life’s task of that person is to awaken this innate purity. Buddhism expresses a deep respect for all faiths, and does not require people to convert to Buddhism in order to find the benefits of meditation. Buddhist methods of meditation are aimed not only at calming the mind, but also at achieving insight into how the mind functions.
Volunteers

Volunteers have been significant in supporting the skilled craftsman who have been involved in the renovation of the Centre. Read more or see photos of the work so far.
In the Community
The centre provides community outreach work, with Buddhist meditation and mindfulness classes at the local hospice, schools and university, as well as at several other health social service organisations, businesses and charities.

We welcome school visits to the centre.
Meditation
Meditation is the art of finding peace and happiness within by using simple methods of calming and stabilising our minds. Modern life can be stressful and busy. Most of the time we are carried along by the force of emotions, habits and conditioning and end up feeling tired and stressed by everyday life. Practising meditation can change this. We offer weekly meditation sessions and regular Meditation & Mindfulness Training Courses.
Yoga & Pilates
Therapy
At the Centre we are able to offer Reflexology, Holistic, Sports & Aromatherapy Massage, Shiatsu, Medical Acupuncture and Dry Needling.
